Hot Poets Ignite Education brings poetry to life in classrooms across the UK through the creativity of former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen and a vibrant team of contemporary poets – HOT POETS. This inspiring programme sparks curiosity, joy and real learning by diving into the heart of language, story and the world around us.

At its core lies climate and the environment. Children notice the changes around them, care about the planet’s future and discover the power of their own voices. When they understand the issues and feel connected to nature, poetry helps them express hope, take action and imagine better ways to live on Earth together.

Across the curriculum, poetry links English, science, geography and more – nurturing creativity, confidence and independent thinking.

HOT POETS SCHOOL WORKSHOPS

Hot Poets 🔥 Ignite Education invites you to book a Hot Poet for your school in 2026 or 2027 – in collaboration with National Poetry Day – under the theme of WONDER! This part or fully funded nationwide opportunity is supported by Arts Council England and ScottishPower Foundation

  • A ground breaking new KS2 & KS3 teaching programme created by Hot Poets, the UKs leading climate and literacy organisation – in collaboration with the legendary Michael Rosen and leading experts from University of Oxford and National Association for Environmental Education (NAEE).
  • Curriculum links with English, Literacy, Geography & Science.
  • Meets key criteria for your school’s Climate Action Plan.

🔥 OPTION 1 – A HOT POET IN YOUR SCHOOL

  • A world class Hot Poet delivering a one day taster, or a three-day programme – part or fully funded. (Plus 2 days of teacher led lessons inc.)
  • Reaching 60 – 120 students per school with hopeful, creative and scientifically inspiring stories of wonder and climate action in 1 – 2 hour workshops + assembly.

🔥 OPTION 2 – TEACHER LED DIGITAL LESSON PACKS (also inc with Option 1)

  • Hot Poets teacher packs with ready-to-use video lessons with Michael Rosen.
  • A video CPD session for teachers from Michael Rosen on how to teach climate science and poetry.
  • The new Children’s poetry anthology – ‘Wonder Thunder Blunder’ (with 20 leading poets) for schools to use as source material across their curriculum.

Partner schools will be invited to attend an online celebratory event in the summer term 2026. This online sharing will be an opportunity for schools to share some of the poems created from their Hot Poet school workshops and listen to other school poems. 

This will be an in-school event, at a time to be arranged. Schools will need to arrange their own video and zooming logistics, ideally in the school hall and where possible a microphone to amplify student voices. More information will be given to schools after they have finished their workshop programme. 

At Hot Poets we have benefited greatly from the partnership work we’ve done internationally and recognise the success of our projects to date has come, not only through our quality creative projects, but also through the reciprocal platforming of multiple partners. As part of this project, schools can expect to have an online listing on our Hot Poets website along with substantial publicity on social media, television and press.

Supports your school Climate Action Plan

All education settings are expected to have a Climate Action Plan in place by 2025. Schools’ plans typically include four areas:

  • Climate education
  • Decarbonisation (energy/buildings)
  • Nature & biodiversity
  • Climate resilience & adaptation

Hot Poets help schools to deliver the education and engagement part of their Climate Action Plan, helping build climate literacy and strengthening emotional resilience around climate change.
