On Wednesday 27th May, Hot Poet Co-Director Liv Torc attended an event with Groundworks London and Green Space Skills Hub.

She invited the attendees to each write a line of poetry on the theme of green spaces, during the event she wove the lines together into one poem and performed it back to the audience at the end of the event.

“Thank you SO much for sharing this. Having not attended the event I’m blown away. This poem is beautiful. The response of your performance and poem has been incredible and will help us to remember this event for a long time to come with this as a wonderful takeaway.”

Rachel Davies, Groundwork, May 2026

Mulch, Mulch, Mulch

Walking on the crunchy summer grass,
I curate beauty,
know that nature knows.
A garden waltz.
The satisfying clink, snap,
as my hand squeezes the handle
of the ever-so-sharp secateurs.
Cultivate,
motivate,
aerate,
activate,
celebrate the promise
of the coming season.
Soul saver,
sowing seeds for tomorrow.
Double digging,
meditatively,
carefully,
with reverence and love.
Mulch, mulch, mulch.
Recording ecology.
Skylarks and parakeets.
Freedom and dog shit.
Leaf litter,
iridescent bugs,
summer rain.
Clean.
Green.
Fresh.
Creating a sensory space,
a space that helps prevent flooding,
trees that create more oxygen
and fresh air.
Nature-based approaches
to climate adaptation,
bringing communities together,
connecting people,
shouting about what matters.
Tree-rich bees.
Care, not capital.
Walling,
hedging,
wood carving.
Birds chirping,
kids playing.
Propagation.
Tidying shady, cool corners.
A peace garden for all.
Green hug hideaway.
A winding pathway,
a desire line between here and there,
the first-choice route home.
Will it smell this good
if we run out of water?
Peppery and refreshing,
a symphony.
A sage and mango smoothie.
Never-ending growth,
and life and death
all at once.
Living sanctuary.
Tree breath.
Ground burrower.
New skilled hands
putting plants in holes.
Storytelling our hearts out.
